New Around Here
I have an ASUS RT-N66U running Merlin 374.43. It is connected to a DSL modem with 17000 Mb download and 800 Mb upload speed. The router is connected to a GB switch and the switch is hardwired to a PC, XBox360 and Google TV. Multiple iPods, iPads, Android are connected wirelessly on 2.4 GHz. QOS is not enabled. Hardware acceleration is disabled because I have real-time, per-device traffic monitoring enabled.
Normally performance is fine and I can stream multiple Netflix videos to the GoogleTV and Xbox360 (both wired) and the kids can watch Youtube wirelessly. However when the kids start uploading videos from their iPads, performance of everything is severely impacted. Response time for web browsing on the wired PC is slow, Netflix will buffer and stop playing on the wired GoogleTV and even the admin GUI on the RT-N66U is slower. When they stop uploading, everything returns to normal.
I don't understand why uploading will impact download speed. I expect to be able to concurrently upload to the full upload bandwidth and download to the full download bandwidth. Since the admin GUI also slow down, I expect it is an issue with the router. I realise the firmware version is old, but I've reviewed the change log and didn't see anything that would be related to this.
Any ideas? Thanks.
