Guys, I am having an issue with my RT-AC3100. For the life of me I cannot get this thing to work! Let me explain. I have a Comcast Xfinity modem, and when I hook up the router to the modem, I cannot access the internet from the router. I cant even access the GUI in the router. When I access the modem, it tells me that the router is detected. The WAN light in the router is kind of a pink'ish color. I have tried resetting the router the modem, but nothing. I am starting to think I have defective unit. Or maybe I have no clue what I'm doing, Lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of comcast modem is it a gateway modem router combo ??

That is a gateway modem router combo. If you want to use your own router the gateway should be placed in bridge mode so it only acts as a plain cable modem. Failing to do this can cause all kinds of weird issues. If you cant place it in bridge mode through the gateway UI then call comcast and have them do it. Once the gateway is in bridge mode you will use port one to hook to the router.

Thank you so much! I got it. Now, for some reason the internet goes in and out, repeatedly, but a couple of times in a few hours. The thing is. that it was doing it with the last router I had also. But to make matters more interesting, I just finished replacing the modem from Comcast. And is still doing the same thing. Not sure what is going on

My guess is bridge mode is not doing it for you. I had my ISP modem in bridge mode and continued to have nothing but issues. I changed over to a static ip and that fixed all my issues. I would recommend speaking to your ISP about getting a static ip.

Comcast does not offer static IP's for residential accounts in most areas any longer. Only Bis class and they charge extra for it. My suggestion is dump the gateway buy your own modem and high quality router. This has always worked for me and countless others. Although if jpina has voice service then his options are very limited as far as customer owned modems.
