Hello,
I have RT-AC3200 router... with latest firmware
every "old" device i have, is having trouble with the 2.4GHz radio.
my HP printer, and i have a "smart" switch for my boiler...
both devices are having terrible connection ( 7 out of 10 ping packet lost )
with my old router ( linksys e4200 ) everything works well...
i know the RT-AC3200 has disconnection problems, but this is too much...

any one experienced that as well ?

Latest firmware does not mean anything. Please provide version number. And whether you did a reset to factory defaults after loading the latest firmware installed, along with manually and minimally configuring the router to secure it and connect to your ISP.

Did you use your old ssid? If you have, try using a new, unhidden, ssid. Otherwise, unhide the ssid (if it is hidden) and 'forget' it on each device and then re-associate each device again to the new router.

Did you use any custom settings? Do you have special characters in your ssid, or passwords?

the firmware is 3.0.0.4.378.4980.
i tried factory defaults after loading - no help
i tried old, and new SSID's , tried to forget and re-configure the devices, tried with several encryptions settings ( wpa, wp2, none etc.. )
my password is only letters , capital and regular.. but only letters. so is my SSID

the weirdest thing i saw is when the b/g Protection checked ON, it can connect to the SSID
if it dosn't , i can't even connect to the SSID

this is very strange.

What channel and band are you connecting to? Is it on manual or Auto?

How far is the test wireless computer from the router and are there any obstacles in between?

I don't know if this will help, but did you try leaving your modem and router unplugged for at least 10 to 30 minutes or more? This is required for most ISP's when you switch routers. What this will do is properly 'register' the new router with the ISP. I can't see this being the core cause of the issue, but, it doesn't hurt to do it either.

Finally, I would be using the RMerlin firmware for your model, with a full reset to factory defaults afterwards.
 
The distance between the router and the printer is barely 5m. no obstacles at all.
tried few channels, Auto as well.. same.
tried to turn off both - no help.
tried RMerlin latest 378.52_2 firmware.. the same.

its like the new chipset of the 2.4GHz in RT-AC3200 don't support so well those older network adapters or something like that...
like i said, its not only the printer, i have 2 more devices who act the same.

anyone else having this issues ?
 
When changing router, make sure you either use a different SSID, or you delete any existing configuration in your wireless clients and reconnect as if it were a new device, as these might be attuned to your previous router.

Yes, agree... But i already did that , and tried set up new SSID as well, both with and without any security... The same thing.
This thing drives me crazy :/
 
Run it with B/G Protection on , at least you can connect . How old are the devices , are they B, G ?

I can connect.. But i cant use it.
The network connectivity is poor.
The HP printer for example is from around 2010.. The other device is around 2012.
Both are G devices
 
Yes, I have the same problem after latest firmware updated. After 4980 update, there is 2.4G signals every couple days, all 5G signals are fine, I have to reboot the router and after that both 2.4G and 5G is back to working, but couple days later, repeat again, this AC3200 having lot of problems compared to my old AC68, I hope ASUS really needs to do something on it....

Yossi :are your serious ? LOL, what do you mean not supported ? wireless router is a wireless router.. if you have devices that don't work with your router you should have mentioned that on the box, which allow me to decide if i want to spend 400$ on a "premium" router

Yossi : new technology !? 2.4 radio is not new technology . and a 2010 printer is not so old.. don't be ridiculous. i want a real answer

There are many vagaries in the 802.11 spec that allow for implementation differences. Device manufacturers have to work around these things all the time.

Some time back, I uncovered a behavior where a router manufacturer had to implement a workaround for an implementation "choice" made by a Wi-Fi chipset maker. The chipmaker's implementation differed from the norm, but it was an unspecified behavior, so not actually a bug.

Because the chipmaker was the dominant supplier and the router manufacturer wanted to sell routers, the router manufacturer made the change.

802.11 has come a long way since even the days of 802.11g, with addition of many many new mechanisms to cram more bits into the same air time. The intent of 802.11n and ac was to be backward compatible all the way to 802.11b. But the devil is in the details and intent is not reality 100% of the time.

It boils down to whether it is worth it for a router manufacturer to accomodate the quirks found in "legacy" devices. If it's a popular device, like a Nintendo DS or set top box, the answer will be "probably". Devices like the ones you have probably don't make the cut.

Not what you wanted to hear, but it's a reality of technology business (not just Wi-Fi) today.

I don't mean to make excuses for them, but this is a pretty cutting edge router with a new chipset. Regardless of what Asus (probably inadequately informed 1st line) support say, the problem will probably be "magically" fixed with a future firmware release, updating the wireless driver. In another thread, I've been talking to someone who had a problem with the AC87, where it would hang when used as an Access Point. His local Asus support were still claiming they had never heard of the problem and suggesting he RMA even AFTER Asus had released new firmware that fixed it!

So, if you really like the idea behind the AC3200 you could hang on for a few more updates, making it clear to Asus or your supplier that you will want to RMA if it isn't fixed, or you can jump ship for more stable/mature tech.

It has been shown many times; if you want reliable and good backward compatibility, don't buy leading edge products. Stay a generation (or two) behind. And even then, compatibility with "legacy" devices is not insured.
 
Well.. i`m hoping ASUS will somehow will fix this issue.
even more.. the disconnections and other stability issues.
 
They have recently done very good work on the AC87, so I would have some confidence - but it is 9 months after release. They do seem to have a real commitment to getting things right in the end. On the other hand, only you know how long you are prepared to wait!

We could wish all this would happen before release, but then I guess things would just come out 6 months to a year later, so we are not really in any better position! Advice to all - buy year-old devices if you want the bugs knocked out.
 
True ;) i don't really know why i bought this router... all i wanted is 1 device with good range and speed for all clients ( G , N, AC )
i don't really have so many wireless clients.. and all my home is with CAT5E cables for the real consuming devices.
I usually by the best thing i can find is the budget scale, and that was supposed to be the best. plus, that 6 antennas made me blind for bugs ;)
the range is good.. but nothing more than that.
maybe i should have chosen different router... lets wait and hope for good.

I have a small visio tv that wouldnt connect with the wireless and its from 2013. For whatever reason it didnt like the passcode, so I had to setup a guest wireless just for that with a smaller passcode with no spaces and then it connected just fine. Not sure if its the spaces or if it was too long. There are some quirky wireless clients out there, thats for sure.

This thread has a lot of very generalized discussion, but is pretty short on getting down to specifics about the particular devices that you say you cannot connect or use. Maybe if you provide that info, I and others will be able to actually assist you in connecting and using your devices with the AC3200.

As background, I've used the AC3200 for the past few months (and used two AC66U's for about a year prior), and have had absolutely zero problems connecting devices to either, regardless of age of the device, whether using the stock Asus firmware or Merlin's (or John's fork).

So let's try troubleshooting this again from the top with you providing specific info about the devices that you're having trouble with.

First, what specific model number of HP printer are you trying to connect and use?

Second, are you using Smart Connect with the AC3200, or are you using separate SSID's? This is important to know for reasons that many others are aware of, but which I won't go into until you let us know which you're using.

Third, in addition to your printer, what other specific devices are you having trouble using? Please identify them specifically (model number, name, and if possible, the firmware version for each such device).

Please provide this info.
