Too many devices. How to increase 2.4Ghz devices? AiMesh?

I have a ASUS RT-AC66U B1 wifi router running Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12_6.

I have about 50 devices on my wifi network. Most of these devices are 2.4Ghz smart devices. (light bulbs, plugs, switches, etc.)

I have a problem where some of these devices almost take turns dropping off and reconnecting to the network, making them unavailable.

If I buy a second RT-AC66U B1 wifi router and use it as a second node with AiMesh, will that allow me to connect more wifi devices and remain stable?

Theoretically, yes.

Possibly. Either wired AP mode or AiMesh mode for the additional Asus routers/devices.

MIght be running DHCP off the end of it's ledge with 50+ devices...

my understanding is that most consumer routers start to have problems over 30 clients per freq... thats why i had the idea of a second router
