RT-AC3200: Connection issues

I picked up an RT-AC3200 in April to replace my old RT-N16 running Tomato. Since I swapped routers I've noticed that my iPhone often experiences connection issues. The wifi stays connected, but I cannot access anything on the LAN or WAN. My wife says she has seen the same on her Macbook, though I haven't seen this on my Macbook Air. I'm running the latest firmware (3.0.0.4.378_7838) and have experienced the issue with Smart Connect both enabled and disabled. I use the same SSID for all APs. I'm not sure how to begin to troubleshoot this, any ideas?

Try turning off 2 of the radios. Isolate this to which radio is causing the problem. Often this is caused by either the client with insufficient transmit power or a suspend issue (i.e. for some wifi cards or windows the adapter needs to be disabled than enabled for it to work after waking up from sleep mode). Perhaps apple devices dont switch bands or SSIDs easily.

Its possible that the apple devices have issues with asus routers and this does happen to others too. There may be a fix or explanation from apple so try searching around.

Right after I posted this I noticed that this issue was happening on my phone. I pulled up the client list on my laptop and it showed that my iPhone had a very weak connection (1 bar) and a low connection speed (6mbps Tx) on the 5GHz-2 radio. My guess is that the phone is not being aggressive enough about switching APs. I turned Roaming Assistant on the 5GHz radios, hopefully that will help.

After a few days of having Roaming Assistant on for the 5GHz APs (I left it off for 2.4GHz) I haven't noticed this issue again and neither has my wife. I was hoping this change would cause my iphone to connect to the 2.4GHz AP when the 5GHz signal is weak, instead it seems to not connect to wifi at all and just uses the cellular connection. Not ideal but having a working internet connection is better than not having one.
