Rt-ac5300 and rt-ax92u

New Around Here
I have 2 asus router. (as in object)
My ac5300 have merlin firmware but ax92u no becouse no realese for this router of merlin.
I want to make imesh network... It's possible with merlin on ac5300 and standard asus on ax92u.
If it'possible to have different firmware witch router is better to use as first node (connect to modem) and and witch for second node of aimesh network..

Thanks in andvance

Just bought the dual RT-AX92U package to replace an old RT-AC66U (not even b1!) and it works great so far - really good throughput, nice form factor, easy to configure AiMesh.
I realize it's a somewhat stripped down version of the AX88U, but much cheaper than 2 of those. And the second 5GHz will support WiFi6 though it's used for wireless backhaul at the same time...
And also: no Merlin support which is sad - the 2-unit package is often discounted and makes for an excellent kit for many people - and would be even better with the Merlin extensions available... :-)

And regarding connecting an AC5300 running Merlin to an AX92 running Asus firmware - don't think it's possible especially as the AX92 use the second *WiFi6* band for wireless backhaul and there is no WiFi6 on the AC5300 - not even flashing back to stock on the AC5300 would fix that, but maybe wired backhaul...? :-O

You can use Merlin on master and stock firmware on Aimesh nodes (with similar releases). Other way round should be possible too but there is almost no benefit on nodes running Merlin.

You are right, I've read that - and routers with different bands (or in this case a second 5GHz band with WiFi6 in the AX92 and WiFi5 in the AC5300) just skip WiFi6 for backhaul as it's only supported in one of the nodes? Like "greatest common denominator"...

At the end we can use ax92 as router and ac5300 as inode...
I think to use stock firmware on both.

Thanks
