I would think 4 down would be worth a try in that image.

With devices like this - keeping the antennae aligned is actually important...

Could you clarify what proper alignment would be if the base is mounted horizontally, flush on the wall (at 90 degrees to being flat on a table)?

A good general rule of thumb is for the axis of the antennas to be at right angles to a line drawn to the clients. That is, if the clients are at the same height as the router, the antennas would be vertical.

Fortunately this is not critical because since the radio waves are reflected and bounce around so much inside a building they could come from any direction. However, I can definitely see the difference when transmitting Wi-Fi signals to another building on my property about 60 feet away.
