I had read that the 2.4 speeds weren't the best on the CNET review of the router, but I went ahead and purchased it anyway, mostly due to the fact that I couldn't find a RT-N66u.. turns out they are much worse than I ever could have expected, about half of what they are using my RT-N56u. Is it possible that this could be rectified with firmware updates?

There's a known issue related to QoS. Disable QoS if you had it enabled, and your wireless speed should be back to normal.

Also if you have your 2.4 channel set to Auto, try manually selecting a different channel and see how things go. I had the same issue until I did 2 things, set it to 40mhz only and manually selected a different channel(in my case I chose 6u).

Asus needs to look at that Auto channel select feature. It seems it's auto selecting the WORST channel.

I was in such a rush to set it up yesterday, and because of the CNET review, was expecting poor performance, I didn't even think to change the channel.. I am seeing a huge difference after changing it. Still not as good as my RT-N56u, but getting closer.

And its terrible again. For the first few hours after setting the channel to what I normally use based on inSSIDer results it was fine and working great, but now I am getting horrible transfer rates on the 2.4 frequency. I've gone back in and made sure that QoS is off, and it is, Disable HW Accelerator is set to NO, and I spent most of last night trying different channels with no luck.

I really want to love this router, but I think that I am going to have to give the N66u a try, or go back to my n56u that has always been rock solid.

We apologize for the issues you have been having with your AC66U. If you can please wait a few more days, we have a new firmware preparing for release that may help you achieve the speeds you desire. We have been actively working on solving issues and improving performance so we appreciate your patience while we work.
