rt-ac66u 3.0.0.4.374.38_2 merlin openVPN SIGUSR1[soft]

i have two different rt-ac66u model routers, both running the same merlin build. (i just updated the build on one of them to attempt to fix this) everything was working spectacularly until just recently, when i started seeing SIGUSR1[SOFT] errors, now it refuses to stay connected on my shield tv.
