New Around Here
Hi.
I have a litte Problem with the RT-AC66u Router. After Setting up this device, i cannot access the Admin Website anymore (192.168.1.1)
The browser (IE or FF or Chrome or Safari) on different PCs did not have access to the Web site.

I did not setup something exotic, only dhcp range, Samba, FTP and some Port-Forwarder as well as some QOS Rules.

Is the problem known for someone or do you know how to restart the httpd service on the router because telnet works!

regards,
Klaus

Same Problem with Merlin-Firmware installed. After reboot, Web-Site is again available for a little while.

No Ideas?

I didn´t have this trouble with Tomato or DD-WRT Firmware, but the AC Modus is not well implemented in this Firmware. If it is, i will switch again.

Posted numerous times on the forums already. Asus added a brute force login detection in the web server in recent versions, which will trigger if you have anything on your PC that constantly tries to access port 80 of your router. The current workaround is to switch to HTTPS and disable HTTP. Otherwise, wait for an update. I already disabled that functionality in my development code, so it will be part of the next release.

The workaround to disable http and enable https does not work for me.

On https, i got the same resuls: no access from any browser or any PC.

I've had that problem an a couple of occasions and power cycling the router usually helped.

Make sure you do disable HTTP access, otherwise your device will still end up being blocked after a few minutes. Also, reboot after applying the change to ensure you flush out any current block.

I found out, that the process "networkmap" blocks the access to the webconsole. If i do a killall networkmap, the Website appears directly.

I read in the forum, that the process scans the network devices on the lan. can anybody describe, what the process networkmap is excactly doing and what can be the reason why it blocks the webconsole access?
Is the process running all the time or only after boot?

thanks and Regards,
Klaus

Sounds like I am having the same problem

I am having the same problem here. Switching off and on sometimes work, but it will happen again soon.

I have chosen "https" from the drop down list that allow us to choose, "http", "https", and "both". I hope that should have "disable HTTP access" ?

#Also, when this happens, apparently the router loses connection to internet.
#Is this another separate issue, or other folks having the same problem?

If you lose access to the webui AND the Internet, then something else is going on. Either the router is crashed, or overwhelmed if you are running Download Master or sharing a USB disk with a lot of media files on it.

I've had that problem, usually (seems) to come up when I try two different machines within an hour or so. Have not seen it lately by only using the console from a single PC.

In every case the problem goes away on it's own (over time) just like it started on it's own.

I don't think so, because, if i do a killall networkmap on telnet or ssh console, the webgui appears directly. it seems for me, the this process crashed or blocked the router. After that command i restart the process with networkmap & . The Problem never appears again, until i reboot the router.

Thanks in advance.

You enable telnet when Router is available. If you then didn*t reach the router via Web-Console, open a telnet session to the router with your Admin user and Password and type in killall networkmap. After that, restart the process with networkmap &

You can watch the running processes with ps -w

I think I have the same problems some days (4-6 days) after I reboot my router. I doesn't accept anything, I can't access it from the webgui nor does anybody in the house get access to the internet when it happens. I don't have any disk sharing enabled. But my kids are viewing a great deal of youtube video's and are using a Scandinavian movieservice.

I have been wondering if this is related to some buffer overrun. I works after reboot, but comes back again some days later. This is only on my repeater (rt66u), my router (rt66u) doesn't seem to have any trouble at all. But most of our wifi trafikk goes through the repeater. Next time it happens I will try to telnet to the repeater and see if this solution will work.

killall networkmap didn't work for me. When I use Google Chrome it works fine. If I use Safari 10 (macOS 10.12) It gives me a blank page like:
https://192.168.1.1:8443/Main_Login.asp?error_status=1&page=index.asp&lock_time=0

Again, Google Chrome and Firefox on Mac (latest versions) seem to work fine.

Also I just tried it it on windows 10 and it works fine there too. Must be something wrong with Safari? Nope.. I just tried it on Safari 10 on macOS 10.12 and it worked too. What the heck! Is there something wrong with the Router?

My router is the RT-AC88U
