I tried updating my firmware to the current stable realease, 384.4, from 380.68 something.
It failed and i tried 384.3 with the same result..
Updated with the latest Legacy firmware (380.69_2) and it worked..
Is it only legacy that works?
I read somewhere that support for RT-AC66U will be discontinued and only legacy works on that but RT-AC66U-B1 will still be supported and the current release should work..
Any ideas on what the problem is?

Make sure you are using the ac68u firmware.

This is the link to your firmware.
Code:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/asuswrt-merlin/files/RT-AC68U/Release/

Yes, thats the one i was using. the AC66U-B1 folder was empty and it said somewhere they use the same firmware so that's the one i used (ac66u).. both times i tried updating to the stable versions (384.4 and then 384.3) was the ac68u version, dont remember where i got the legacy one that is working now though, maybe in the ac66u section of the download page.

Make sure you have the right router. Are your antenna removable? If they are, it's a plain rt-ac66u.

Are you sure you really have an RT-AC66U_B1? It should clearly be identified as such in the model (i.e. do NOT look at the hardware revision, that's a different thing).

yes, 100% sure.. says so both on the routers settings page and on the bottom of the router

Stock 384? Do you mean Asus own firmware? no, i had merlins 380.68 and tried to 384.4 and 384.3
Will settings remain when downgrading to asus stock firmware (if that's what you mean)? It's been a while since i setup this router and can for the life of me dont remember what i've done :D After getting the 380.69_2 installed and working, it couldnt connect to the internet but thankfully i saved the settings and after uploading that file with the settings, everything worked fine again.. But can that same file be used on the stock 384? if not, i dunno if i want to try ;)
