Was copying a file last night from mac to NAS using wired connection that goes mac > Switch > NAS the router is connected to the same switch via two homeplugs.

I moved the mac and the cable moved about 1mm and I lost connection for the briefest of moments (plastic clip had broke). But when the connection resumed I couldn't see anything on the network removed the cable and connected thru wireless with the same result.

Tried to connect to the router directly with cable but the router couldn't be found either. I don't know why but for some reason I turned wireless back on and tried again. This time with success, logged in and noticed the internet connection had dropped, with Renewing Lease displayed, and DDNS error.

The wired connection on the mac had a strange IP address which I hadn't set (DHCP server set-up to give 192.168.0.20 to 40) but the wired connection on the mac was something like 192.184.66.157) however the wireless IP address was correct which explains how I connected to the router. I set the mac to use only wireless and tried to ping other devices on the network but received a "Host is Down" message, but I could ping the router.

I have reset the router, cleared NVRAM, factory reset, flashed new firmware all to no avail. It still wont connect to the internet nor can I see any other devices on the network. Only by connecting by wireless can I see the router......but nothing else.

Am using merlin RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4_372.31_0.trx

Plugged my old router in tonight and am now back up and running, can see all devices on the network etc etc

So has the very short disconnection shorted or blown something in the router? Or is there something else I need to reset......help

Try setting up the router again. I have had incidents where the router will puke and then nothing will save it. I power it down and unplug everything and go drinking for a while, the drinking is the most important step. When I feel like it I will power the router back up and only have a LAN connection from my household server connected to it. Then I will use the firmware recovery tool to flash the router with a firmware version I know to be stable. That has always worked but I think you have to drink Johnny Walker Blue Label.

Thanks Dave, I'll give it a go at the weekend....but there is one problem, will Vodka work cause I don't like whisky??

I always find Captain morgan is a big help when doing anything router related. :D

Router and wine. If you drink a bottle of wine and fix your router then you know it is good.
