New Around Here
Hello,

I have a weird problem, since I changed router to an Asus RT-AC66U I can't use netflix on my android devices. It just crashes.

It starts without problem without wifi. It happens both on 2G and 5G Wifi.

On my wifi at work (UniFi AP) the Netflix app works fine.

Anyone else heard something about this?

I have also sent a ticket to the Asus support, but I'm running Asuswrt-Merlin.

Best Regards,
Noiden

I have already tried that a couple of time, I also tried to install DD-WRT on it, same error tough, very weird problem, seems like a Netflix problem tough, but they just blamed it on the router...

If it doesn't work with dd-wrt, can't blame Merlin's firmware. It's like a problem with the physical router regardless of software, which is odd. Or your ISP at home?

Nah, I just said that I tried with DD-Wrt to see if it was Merlin's firmware, but the error is there with Asus original, Merlins and DD-wrt, yeah, exactly physical problem, seems weird. Nah, It worked at home with my old Netgear router (Open-wrt), no problem. But something with the router and the ISP togheter I think, because I tried to connect to the wifi on my extender and still got the same problem.

Do you maybe block google dns? I read somewhere that they hardcoded dns into app.
Naah, don't think so, Netflix support told me to try with my ISP's DNS-servers because I had Google's DNS-servers active in the router when i contacted them.

Got this one "RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4_378_9313-g53ab20f.trx" from the Asus support, some kind of beta firmware? :) Should try it tomorrow.

Did you ever solve this? I've had same issue for awhile, ASUS RT-AC68U router.
I have multiple Android devices, Netflix was failing on each, except on my Kindle Fire HDX. I then found my Fire HDX was using an older version of Netflix. I updated Netflix, then it started crashing on that tablet too.

If I extend my ASUS network using a wifi repeater (with different SSID so I can ensure I'm connected to that network), if I share out my network from my macbook, if I use cellular data to create a hotspot, any of those solutions allow me to use Netflix, but as soon as any of the devices connect to the primary network, Netflix app crashes out immediately.

So it's definitely some incompatibility that Netflix built into the more recent releases...

Funny thing is, Android TV (Nvidia Shield TV) works fine. iirc it's connected to ethernet, not wifi, so that may be why...

Hmm, I don't know really, I installed DD-WRT on the router, but I have only played Netflix directly from the (Smart)-TV lately, I could try tonight and see if it works on my android phone. =)
