RT-AC66U, What fan?

The manual that I've got "User Guide RT-AC66U Dual Band 3x3 (etc.)" for this ASUS Router says (on page 8) "... please switch on the cooling system."
Could this be a mis-print? I don't see, or hear, any cooling fan when the Router is powered on.
Are these routers effected by excess ambient heat?
It's going to live on the top shelf of our linen closet with the cable modem, a 1/2 gig disk, and a small UPS. Does that make a difference? Should I be concerned?

The RT-N66U revision A1 had a cooling fan. That model was never mass produced, and was replaced by revision B1, which did not have a fan. For some reason, Asus didn't bother revising the manual accordingly.

When they released the RT-AC66U, they did a pretty poor copy-paste job, reusing the RT-N66U manual and simply replacing references to N66 with AC66. And so the cooling fan reference remained.

Not to overstate what should be obvious from Merlin's reply, but the AC66U has no fan.

As far as whether you should be concerned about placing an AC66U on the top shelf of a linen closet, you don't mention whether there's ventilation or cooling in the closet. If not, then I'd think about somewhere else to locate the unit, and it goes without saying that you should always be concerned about placing any heat-sensitive electronics in any enclosed space that has no ventilation.

On the other hand, if you want it out of the way, and the closet is the most central location in your home, just be prepared to buy another router when your's eventually fails.

BTW, with the AC66U, you can always check the temps of both radios to be sure they're not overheating. Look in "Administration>Performance Tuning".
