Any chance that this is the version 2 of this router (which has already been filed with the FCC)?:D

if you go to compare on ASUS site with AC68U the specs are virtually identical with the only difference being the omission of Linux OS support on the AC68P

however, I don't think this is really providing anything useful since it says the package content is the same "RT-AC68U"!

I wonder if the processor / memory specs are the same?

visually, the P looks to have beefier antenna but there doesn't seem to be any further info in any online search

Like other people have said RT-AC68P should be RT-AC68U V2, it will be out in first quarter of 2015.

Wow, guess those with the AC68U should have waited. Didn't think a V2 would be out a few months after initial release...

Or....the V2 is a production cost reduction and the initial users have the better components....

Just have to wait and see...

RT-AC68U V2 (P if the case) is a exact copy of RT-AC68U but with a new CPU BCM4709 1GHZ (same as RT-AC87U) instead BCM4708 800MHZ from AC68U and new PA and radio on 5GHZ band from Skyworks.

It's expected a better coverage/range and throughput.

IMO owners of RT-AC68U shouldn't bother with any of these models: RT-AC68U V2, RT-AC87U or even RT-AC3200, they are all based on the same arch, they are slightly better but not worth the extra costs, like i used to say "more of the same with different radios".

RT-AC68U was out in October 2013 :)

A few months? We're talking nearly two years here if this rumour is true, and that would still be months after the actual successor to the RT-AC68U has been released (the AC87).

Based on the CFE source code there will be 2 new PCBs on the AC68U V2 (or not) so im not really sure if P is a different version:

rt-ac68u_v2_5003
rt-ac68u_v2_5023
rt-ac68u_v2_85402

PAtype. 0: RT-AC68U, 5023: RT-AC68U V2 with original PA 5023, 85402: RT-AC68U V2 with new PA 85402

PA 85402 is Skyworks PA.

Maybe P=Premium?

Maybe P=Premium?

I prefer the theory that P means it will be a Purple edition.

Code:
I love you
You love me
Let's route through your ISP
...

RMerlin,

I lol'd with your 'code'.

But with the Purple Edition it might be more appropriate like this:

Code:
ISPeeeee, ISPeeeeee
ISPeeeee, ISPeeeeeee

I only want 2 see u routing
 in the Purple lane

:D

You guys have a bright future :)

Has anyone be able to test the USB 3 on this new version?
