Adrian,

Under LAN -> DHCP Server
You can Manually Assigned IP for each device around the DHCP list, at the same time click on the icon to set the icons to whatever you want ... a screen shot of how I set mine :)

I am aware of that and if you read the OP again, you will see that we use it for our in house VOIP devices (screen shot does not show the custom icon because I did an NVRAM reset last night and not added it back yet), the auto type detection seems to work pretty much ok on the MASTER, the main issue is that devices connected via an AiMess nodes all showing a repeater icon.

It's not really feasible to go setting icon types for customer devices.

Oops, I thought you mentioned in you OP, however, looking at your screenshot I thought you missed it. ;)

Mr. Knight. I am going to step out on my shaky limb and comment on your deliberate wrong handed use of "AiMess" in lieu of the correct "AiMesh."
If you really feel that Asus is so bad that you need to run the company down, return them and get your money back or I'll trade your Asus Routers for a Netgear Orbi RBK50 system. Then you will have something to complain about!
Let me join you on your shaky limb ;). The repeated use of AiMess just comes across as juvenile. The point was made (and understood) in the thread title.

As an update to this, I am not sure AiMess has anything to do with the issue, since last night I turned off the 2 AiMess nodes and noticed the client icons showed correct until a refresh was performed and then all devices showed a repeater icon type.

No mess here when connected by the node.
The device is reported with the correct symbol.
This was also the case with the "release" variant 20624.
