RT-AC68U - Why I cannot get more than 200Mbits file transfer rate?

Hi all,
I have two PCs connected wirelessly: one behind RT-AC68U and one behind NetGear EX6200, both through gigabit connections. The distance between the devices is about 10m and EX6200 reports -52db signal strength and about 866Mbits link rate. Still, I can never get more than 200Mbits file transfer rate between the two PCs . Can someone help here. Cheers

Have you tried testing this with wired connections? You may find this is the limit of your hard drives.

As a consolation, I'm in the same position! No matter what I'm doing I'm "capped" to ~250mbps.
I even have a test plan...thinks to try next time when I have time and I'm the only user in the network (my better-half is not that happy while I'm testing).

It is kinda frustrating...I have a log with my former 802.11n adapter doing 320mbps. Some times ago...although lately I was not able to reach the same speed.
I changed my laptop and now I have an Intel AC 7260 adapter and I can't reach the same speeds, although the connected speed is 866mbps vs 450mbps. I'm talking about 5GHz.

It's some weird setting in the router and I couldn't find the culprit yet

@NickoP - on wired connection I can reach the limit of my storage, around 700mbps.

Have you tried disabling the beamforming options, individually and together?

Tried all 4 combinations. Without Explicit Beamforming is challenging to connect, but it works eventually.
But still no improvement.

My last resort would be to install Windows and test it with whatever Intel drivers would be the newest.
I'm using Ubuntu and I would need to buy a 2.5" drive to install Windows. I don't want to install Windows on the SSD because I don't want to alter my current installation...

Both drivers are SSD, so I don't think it is a matter of storage speed. And yes, I tried disabling the beamforming options, all four combinations - no good

I installed a Windows 8.1 instead of Ubuntu.
And considerably increase my network speed!
I constantly achieve 520mbps!
I'm running 3.0.0.4.376_3626, with advanced settings as optimized as possible on 5GHz.

Now I know there's no issue with my router or my settings. Intel has to work a lot for Linux drivers. It's 2x better in Windows than in Linux, with the exact same laptop and the latest available drivers&firmware. It is weird, somehow, knowing Intel has lots of programmers developing proper drivers for Linux.

It's time to move on Intel forum...Asus is doing well enough...although they are screwing stuff every now and then...see the next to last driver they published

And back to Ubuntu...I have to proof Windows drivers are better, but I can plug a cable when speed is all that matters...for the day by day I'm happy with Ubuntu.
