Hmm, this actually worked. So the bug was in Merlin's 384.17 firmware. Speeds are normal and great now.

Merlin's 384.17 firmware is buggy, then.

There is a 384.18 alpha 1 Merlin that has good reports so far. I have run Merlin for several years with great success and still have two AC68U's on 384.17. With the current threats to health I decided to make my home network simple in case i got sick. Would like to have DoT but am working fine on Quad9.

No experience with Netgear, but after having my AC86u replaced under warranty its' been rock solid. Latest ASUS stock firmware is also rock solid.
