RT-AC86U drops WiFi calls after 10-15 seconds

You can’t put the Pace in bridgemode the best you can do is DMZPlus

This link and probably a million others discuss DMZ Plus. It sounds like it should simulate bridge mode. I still suspect the Pace is messing with the phone traffic.

disabling wifi fairness as well as following instructions listed above has not fixed the issue. Calls still dropping.
 
I don't know if all carriers work the same way, but Verizon's WiFi calling is simply a UDP VPN connection to their servers that stays up as long as your phone is connected to the WiFi. I wonder if the Pace is killing the connection or filtering UDP somehow. Just to check the obvious, are there any filters set up on the RT-AC86U that might affect UDP packets?

I just checked and I do not have any filtering set up. I know that the Pace is setup properly as my ASUS is receiving the public IP address. Is there anyway to use the ASUS log reports to figure out what may be going on?

Did you ever figure this out? I have a Very similar setup. I have so much disabled in the AC68U... airtime fairness. Universal, roaming assistance, NAT acceleration. Etc. I have issues with AiMesh and Merlin firmware with Wi-Fi calling and I can’t figure it out!

Nope, I never did. I got fed up trying to figure it out that I just turned off one of the settings (forgot ATM) that allows Wi-Fi calling so I can still use the network with my phone just dont use the wifi calling with it. I have no issues with AiMesh that is working fine. Just the calling part.
 
WiFi calling is nothing more than a UDP connection just like any other. If UDP packets can traverse your network WiFi calling should work. I have seen poorly configured routers (or cable modems) configured to kill inactive connections after a period of time. The only other thing I can think is to make sure SIP passthrough is "enabled + NAT helper" on the WAN --> NAT Passthrough tab.
 
I can make and receive the call. It just drops after a short amount of time. I don’t have NAT helper anywhere.

There are a lot of options here for addressing the issue that haven't been tried, or at least haven't been reported as tried. Have you confirmed that the modem isn't configured to close connections after a certain period of time? Being able to DHCP properly has no relation to this issue.

It seems other people have this issue with Pace modems.

Hey everyone. I have the strangest issue that I can sort out! I have a RT-AC86U with the latest firmware. For the last month or so my wife and I have noticed our wifi calls will drop after a few seconds.
Over a year later, and it's STILL an issue.
Double-NAT makes it less severe (I can have calls for maybe a couple minutes), but ultimately, the connection goes silent and drops.

These articles do not work. They don't do anything. It is a flaw with AT&T's cable modems, with or WITHOUT DMZplus enabled.

Download speedtest for IOS and check the speed from your phone while connected to the ASUS

Download a program like WiFi analyzer on your PC and check for channel conflicts. It's also available on Android but don't think so on IOS.

As already stated, double NAT your ASUS behind a port on your PACE. DISABLE the WiFi on the PACE.

Not looking for an argument. This isn’t the television show “a million little things”.
The Pace 5268 (or firmware) is crap. It is impacting WiFi calling.
Google it. Or don’t.
 
Yup. Had to get a whole new updated modem. Took them 5 times to finally give me a new modem. All is working well.

DMZplus mode is what kills my WiFi calling. I’ve turned it on and off. I’ve had conference calls with ATT execs. It’s like dealing with dumb powerless children.
The solution is to get the Arris BGW210.
