Great Merlin's firmware I achieved 50 days up time for the first time with a home wireless router. Than means it ran smoothly without any issues so I din;t had to restart for any reason.

50days with 1400MHz ? You use active cooling ? I see nice CPU temp 70C

Yup, the only time I reboot is when I do a firmware. Out of the box I went 42 days, then a firmware came out.

Course the times I was putzing around with the device kept it from going back to 42, but we're at a solid 4 days.

I am considering wirelesss scheduler to have the radios off at night for heat purposes and general longevity.

OC without overvoltage actually doesn't have such a great impact on cpu temps, moreover on idle state.

Anyway, 70C is a very sweet spot for 87U cpu.

The CPU on one of my 87Us reports 104C sitting on top of a cabinet doing nothing; No overclocking. It's working fine though!

As this isn't even reported in the stock firmware it's hard to say it's faulty.

Either there is a lot of over worrying about temps (I have read, but not been able to confirm, that the TjMax is 130C) or my sensor is faulty. I suspect a bit of both - other temps don't suggest the CPU should be that high but most online discussion seems to suggest these processors, designed to be passively cooled, can run a lot hotter than you think.

I observed 100+ C temps with my RT-AC68U router, with or without overclocking. I had placed two 120mm cup cabinet fans right beside it to bring down the temps to 67C that's the minimum I achieved.

With RT-AC87U with out fans(with overclocking) it stays within 82C and with just one 120mm fan temps stays around 68 C to 74 C.
Temps depends on the room temp as well. At my place normally during summer temps are high average is around 32-36 C. So my RT-AC87U reaches till 74 C temps with one 120mm fan for cooling during peak hot day.

Has per my experience RT-AC87U runs cooler than RT-AC68U and I think ASUS has done well in dealing with thermal reduction on their newer routers.

i have two 87u and both have 80-84C temp without oc and without active cooling.
