RT-AC87U 5GHz 20/40/80MHz Question

I have a question about the channel bandwidth on the RT-AC87U.

There are only three options for the bandwidth settings on the router using Merlin 380.58. 20, 40, and 80MHz.

I currently have it set for 80MHz for AC.

Is this forcing my N clients to connect to the 2.4GHz radio?

Or is does it function like the 20/40/80MHz options on previous routers?

Should I be setting the 5GHz radio to 40MHz for N and AC clients?

I ask because N clients don't support 80MHz channel badnwidth and I have noticed on the RT-AC66U and the RT-AC56U that there is an option for 20/40/80MHz which would allow N clients to grab 40MHz for the 5GHz radio.

If u wanna maximize while can still connect the A/N/AC then. Use the settings A/N/AC , then set the bandwidth 80mhz. So the N will still connect at 40mhz. And ac can go to 80mhz
 
This is simply due to how Quantenna's API works. What you see there is the maximum supported width, so using 80 MHz will still allow clients to use 20 or 40 Mhz if that's the largest width they support.

Well my replay just get ignored. But anyway @RMerlin it affect all router right? That it's gonna report max supported width
Correct. Clients can always connect using a narrower channel band.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend you by ignoring you. I just didn't completely understand what you were trying to get across with your statement.
