RT-AC87U - 5GHz dies, factory reset needed to restore.

New Around Here
Hi clever ones,

Using the RT-AC87U with Merlins latest firmware build 376.48_1.

During setup and after reboot the 5GHz dies. A factory reset is the only option to get it running again.
It's the same phenomena with Asus official releases as with Merlin's releases.

The Wireless log says something like: "not started" for the 5GHz radio after reboot.
The WiFi symbol in the Asus ui. says "Channels 0" for the 5GHz.

Any ideas why this happens?
I read somewhere that I should use only alphanumeric characters in the WPA-key.
And, I am, ASCII Alphanumeric. I have used my 63 character key for a good 5 years now with a lot of different routers/clients and it has never caused any problems. Is this just an issue with the Asus-line of routers?
The key works flawless on a RT-AC68U.

Anyhow, any ideas is appreciated. Put in far to much time into this router already so it might be replaced with another AC86 instead.

Thanx // t

Just in case it's a length issue, try using a shorter WPA key of no more of, say, 10 characters.

The RT-AC87U has a completely different architecture for the 5 GHz side, so it might have different quirks/limitations than the other models.

I was hoping for another answer. An answer that would make me keep this hitechynewstuff. I was prepared for bugs and firmware issues (as normal with new products), but not in this magnitude. When even the most basic functions is out the window it's time to rethink an do something else: back to the dealer you go, you dreadful thing.

Anyhow, thanx for the answer.
