RT-AC87U as range extender for RT-AX58U ?

Is there any way of using RT-AC87U as range extender for primary RT-AC58U router? Both are running Merlin. Apparently RT-AC87U cannot run as repeater due to chipset limitation. Any other way to hack the way through or is this just the end of it entirely? Any way that I could utilize it to expand range would be great.

Think you can use it as a access point via Ethernet cable if that is a possibility for you.

I was hoping for a wireless solution if possible.

Is switching the roles of the two routers you have an option?

Do you have the RT-AX58U or the RT-AC58U as stated in your title and first post?

Maybe you could use "home plugs" to avoid a long Ethernet cable as a solution
