Can somebody guide me or explain if there is any easy way of changing the locale for Asus RT-AC87U? The router is purchased from the UK and came with EU locale. The signal coverage is worst than on my RT-N18U (2.4Ghz) which is not what I expected from a router that cost 3 times more. I'm running 376_2769 atm. I would like to change it to GB. Thanks!

You can't do it easily, as the region encoded in the read-only bootloader is what's used. You would have to edit the bootloader - there are already dozens of posts about this on the forums.

I managed to edit my CFE after a little bit of digging but didn't manage to flash it with the "mtd-write" command. The console did not recognize it.
I dug a little bit deeper and found this modded firmware http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=21489
I just flashed it and I'm impressed with the initial results. This router is a beast. :) Thanks for the reply!

You need to:

Copy the mtd-write v2 (ARM) file to the router usb storage
Then
cd /mnt/your-drive-name/
chmod +x mtd-write
./mtd-write -i modded_cfe.bin -d boot

I have edited mine and flashed it, once a factory reset i went to wireless and a pop up window came up saying (country not set bla bla) i have also lost the ability of including DFS channels on channel list, Do i need it or benefit from it?
I have screenshots of it , cant post them this time.
I have only edited the ccode on cfe but i believe i may be missing something else.
Also does any one knows the command to show the 5ghz channel list ?
