Did you then reconfigure the router manually? No restore of old configuration?
If yes: Then the router/hardware is most likely the issue here...

Is it both the 5Ghz band and the 2.4Ghz band or just the 5Ghz? the 87u is known for having hardware problems with the Quantenna chip that has the 5Ghz-radio in it.

Both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz band.

In that case I don't know. it might be a different type of hardware error then.

Since you have the merlin firmware, do you still get temperature readings from the "performance tuning" tab in Administration, or is it blank? If the radio is indeed off/not working, it should be blank but if you're getting temperature readings it might be software related.

If both of them are shutting down, then it's highly unlikely to be a hardware failure. My first guess is that someone is pressing the Wifi button on the router.

Next time it happens, try pressing that button for 2 seconds.

Hi merlin,i hope you get better.

i dont understand what you are saying? nobody is pressing nothing in the router, that button is in front, and i live alone.

Iam connect to wireless 2.4ghz, never use 5ghz, then wireless no more, and both lights go off, but if i connect a cable i still have internet, other lights are ok, but 2.4 and 5ghz lights are off. to have wireless again i have to reboot.

These strange thing happens if i do not reboot the router at least 1 time for week, if i do that all works fine.

Still, try pressing that button next time it happens.

Also take a look at your system log for any message related to wireless.

Sounds like a hardware problem with both Wifi radios, could be heat related. Try running with the 5GHz radio disabled in the firmware to see if that makes a difference.

ok, i will do that, by the way what is the reason to press that button? just to know.

If for some reason an event turned the wifi off, this will turn it back on.

The fact that BOTH radios are going off is what makes it unlikely to be a hardware issue. The two radios aren't even from the same manufacturers.

ok, thanks. the true is that i use only 2.4ghz, never use 5ghz(but in firmware is activated), but boths lights go off. i have the router in a open place, these problem happens if i do not reboot the router at least 1 time for week.

Very uncommon but not out of the question until eliminated. I'm covering the thermal angle in case there is an issue with overheating and shutdown of the radios by a protection circuit. Another quick test would be to put a fan next to the router and have it force air across the router to see if that stabilizes the wifi.
