Ok.. here's the story. I was going to install the latest Merlin firmware to the router. For some reason it wouldn't log in to the 168....etc site saying forgot name/password. I hadn't changed them.. but still wasn't getting in so I decided to reset the router and start from scratch.. OOPS... now the router won't accept the Ethernet signal. I've rebooted many times....... router... computer... I have a cable modem... did that too.. nothing works. One tech told me to not only unplug the cable modem...but to disconnect the coaxial cable too... tried that......... same result. I can take the Ethernet cable DIRECTLY from the modem to the computer and bang.. I have internet access. So the Ethernet cable is not the problem. What am I missing? Yes I pushed the red button on the router for more that 15 sec... unplugged it for at least 30 sec... the router WAN light blinks blue while the computer (windows 10 64bit).. is doing identifying...... then it goes red and I get the No internet access result. Tried the troubleshooter in Admin mode... let the computer to a network reset reboot.. nada.
I'm at a loss. any suggestions?
thanks.

After turning the router on...off... over and over........the setup screen appeared.. managed to go online and reenter name//passwords... access the 192.168 setup page....... so its all good for now.....

You should always factory reset AND turn off the router for a few minutes to rest all chips in the device.

On the other hand it could be that you router is simply broken - had this bad luck with my AC68U: The hardware was broken during/after I did a firmware update. :(

Well that could be it sure....... I didn't do the firmware up yet.. so it could all be bad timing. I've been known to be plagued with that.

First, please take the time to describe your setup. Who is the ISP? What model modem do you have? How do you have the modem connected to the Asus router? What other routers or AP do you have on the network?

My guess you have a bridged modem/router combo from your ISP and when you reset it, you reverted it back to it's non bridge mode, causing a problem on your network. Part of that problem is probably a IP conflict between the IP used to access your Asus router and the IP used to access the ISP gateway by default. If so, try changing the access IP of the Asus router by a octet, and see if that then allows you to log into the ISP gateway. If so, then use that access to put the gateway back into bridge. This is all assuming that is how you had it connected to begin with and that is how you want it now.

He never said he reset the modem.

Maybe not directly, but IMO it was applied when OP said:

"I've rebooted many times....... router... computer... I have a cable modem... did that too.. nothing works."

However I agree that doing a full power cycle of the equipment in the proper order (modem>router>PC) is important after changing or confirming any issue. Maybe pictures would help?

Actually not very much, if it actually is a modem, and not a modem/router gateway. I think OP has TW/Spectrum, so a factory reset on a stand alone cable modem only clears it's memory of the configuration file for service parameters and CMTS data like prefered starting downstream range. I doubt any of that would have been disturbed by a factory default on the router. Not saying your wrong, because anything is possible until OP defines the situation more, I am just explaining why I said what I said. Everyone's input is welcome IMO. :)

I'm confused by all your statements. Maybe it's a language thing. The op said he reset the router and only rebooted the modem.
Then you said, maybe when he reset the modem it took it out of bridge mode. I replied the op never said he reset the modem but only rebooted it.

Now you are implying that I said he reset the modem but even if he did, it wouldn't change its settings. Lol
