Hello,
ASUS released firmware updates for multiple routers earlier this week. My mesh network of 2xRT-AX55 and 2xRT-AX1800S did an automatic update 2am Tuesday morning. I woke up to find my solar inverter not able to connect. Initially I went down the wrong track of believing my inverter was at fault. Turned out a number of other devices were also affected, mainly smart lights. I tried manual upload of the previous version (52332) but it failed - stuck on a "Please wait" screen forever. I was able to revert my AX1800S devices through the web UI.
Using a packet sniffer I found that the BOOTP/DHCPDISCOVER packets from clients were not being acknowledged by the router.
To recover the AX55s I had to use Firmware Recovery tool. My inverter and other devices are back working again.
I logged an incident with ASUS and the support person was not aware of any issue with the 53081 version, just that it was no longer available on the download page. Obviously someone at ASUS knows there is an issue with that version but they are keeping quiet about it. I would expect transparency.
Does anyone have any further insight into this issue? Plans for a further AX55 image soon? I've turned off automatic updates for now...
Cheers, Greg.
PS. When using the Firmware Recovery tool, be sure to disable all network interfaces (Windows 11) except the ethernet interface that you want to use. The tool does not offer an option to select an interface. In my case it was trying to use a virtual adapter for a VM that wasn't even running.
