hi, I just bought a pet feeder with an app. now the pet feeder (smartpaw brand but seems oem, ie: other brands like wopet uses the same app to control the pet feeder)

in the setup manual it recommends no ap isolation, no mac filtering, wpa2

1) I've tried using two phones, one phone as hotspot, the other phone as the app installer and the app will pair. but since it appears to work across lan only, its pointless to have my hotspot turn on all the time with two phones to manage the pet feeder.

2) I have tried a guest network (wpa2) and i was watching the wireless while pairing and no extra device ever shows up so it must be failing here somehow.

anyway I can debug the issue further? (I'll try a guest network of wpa and wpa3 later just in case)

could the device be outdated in some fashion (certificates etc)

ai protection is off, firewall is off. using google dns (hmm, maybe i should turn that off) , smart connect on both bands are off

Are you running AiMesh or any AP nodes in addition to the main router?
Have you tried connecting the IoT pet feeder device to the main LAN WiFi instead of the Guest Network WiFI? (Wasn't clear to me from your explanation if you have done this as a troubleshooting step.)
If using Guest Network, does using Guest Network #2 or #3 rather than Guest Network #1 fix the issue?

There is a known issue with Guest Network with Access Intranet option set to Disable on certain recent firmware causing the Guest Network connected clients from being unable to access the Internet. Plenty of past discussion on this specific issue. For example; see here, and here, and here, and here, and here, and here for some earlier discussions on this issue.

Those using YazFi do not have this Access Intranet issue due to how YazFI works. Note that YazFi doesn't support or work on AiMesh or AP nodes.

firewall is off.
Missed this one, do not turn off the firewall. Having it off on an internet facing router is a good way to get compromised.

its not a mesh . I've also tried direct in addition to guest internet. will turn firewall back on later. I'm fairly sure my settings should already be most iot device compatible. will look and test wireless mode as N and Legacy only later.

My daughter bought some of these "no name" pet feeders. The ONLY thing that worked was WPA — I told her that if it was my network, I would have sent the pet feeders back to Amazon (maybe the three cats as well?).

I could not connect my TomTom satnav to my GT-AX6000 running the latest firmware despite keeping firmware default settings and factory resets but also with it working perfectly well on previous versions and with other routers
