Has anyone had trouble with the latest Merlin firmware on the RT-AX86U? The latest firmware caused a Wi-Fi malfunction, giving this error message: "The country code does not exist!" I tried flashing the firmware again and got the same results. I uploaded the stock ASUS 3004_388_24323 firmware and everything is working again.

I have been using Merlin's firm since I got the router (production year 2020). Never had an issue before.

It's nothing to do with that specific Merlin firmware version. You were suffering from this malware. Asus pushed out that updated firmware which attempts to repair the damage.

Hi Colin, just for others reading the thread, would I be correct to state that after you “fix” it with the stock FW you can then reinstall the latest Merlin FW (if this is your preference for the various features) and will no longer be exposed to the bug?

Asking as I understood that Merlin’s FW v3004_388.8_4 “- FIXED: Security issues in AiCloud (backports from Asus)”.
