Hello, stumbled upon this thread and my AX86U was having the exact same issues as described here and in multiple thread:
  1. Could not login with my usual credentials
  2. Reset to default and tried to use it as a mesh node (I bought a new AX86U Pro) but it couldn't join.
  3. Tried in AP mode, Wifi not working with country code error.
I have no backup settings of the router unfortunately. I hear that @ColinTaylor may be able to help? What do I need to do to help restore this router?

Also it seems to be a widespread issues and pretty concern it will also affect my new AX86U Pro. Other that , I have disabled G

the update to prevent this issue has been released for the pro for a while now. if you installed it you'll be ok.

as for the AX86U it got the update a lot later (two days ago). it seems to be one of the most affected models. i hope Mr., Colin can help you, but from what i understand of you don't have a back up you have a better chance by contacting asus support.

Also it seems to be a widespread issues and pretty concern it will also affect my new AX86U Pro.

Install the current AX86U Pro firmware 3.0.0.6.102_34336... it has been patched... Hard Reset and configure from scratch.

FW Reset FAQ

Reset button/webUI Restore/node removal clears settings in NVRAM; reboot restores fw defaults from CFE

Hard Reset via WPS button/webUI Restore+Initialize also clears data logged in /jffs partition

Me, I would still avoid using the ancillary router features that permit WAN access, like AiCloud, etc.... keep it simple and as locked down as you can. This approached has avoided this current WAN vulnerability.

It's Thanksgiving morning, I just got home from the traditional high school football rivalry game - we won, turkey's in the oven, family is happy, life is good. So I decide to update my Asus RT-AX86U. Why not, it's been over 2 years since I updated it. Loaded the latest version; went well but unable to log in. Asus says do a Re-Set. No problem. Now the dreaded "The Country Code is not exist" and...

NO WIFI. NO Macy's parade. NO football. NO "Alice's Restaurant" and NO dinner music. I explained to my family what happened, NO sympathy. My chance of escaping this day unscathed is less than that of the turkey.

Hardwired my PC and started shopping for Black Friday deals on new routers. And then I found this post. Could there really be a guy that can fix this? And he does it just because he's a good guy? So I sent him a message. In no time I'm back to goodness. Amazing. My family doesn't care that some good-hearted guy on the internet solved the problem because Dad ruined Thanksgiving. Oh well. The cat still seems to like me.

So my vote for "Internet Man Of The Year" goes to @ColinTaylor. I can't thank you enough. Happy Holidays!
