I also got compromised this Monday. my situation is a little worse i had two ax-82u's connected as nodes. they also seem to be affected. i have a Gundam Zaku 2 ax-86u as my main router. i was initially able to get into the router by hard resetting it, and then running a older firmware. however i ran into the country id issue. before i read the forums during my troubleshooting i re flashed the router again. now, no matter if i soft reset, or hard reset. i cannot log into the router. it wont reset back to factory to put a new password in. keeps asking for existing login and password. id log onto telegram but without access to logging in. i don't think i want to waste your time. any advice on resetting the log in info? p.s haven't tried messing with ax-82s yet other then hard resetting and realizing it is asking for country info.. really want my zaku back really liked that thing.

I am a bit confused tho. From what I see on their website, Asus has an official firmware update for the AX86U PRO dated last week: (Current Version : 3.0.0.6.102_34336-gc04af06_403-gd851b)

But for the AX86U non pro version it's still at version: (3.0.0.4.388_24243-g3b611ea) dating back to the month of May of this year.

When I try to update my regular AX86U through the GUI, it stays on this older version and says it's the latest version available.

I didn't realize both machines had separate update forks. This may also affect the availability of the Merlin update I guess.

So my router is still on the same firmware from before the wifi radio turning off after reset issue...

I've just installed this on my AX86U and hey presto it works!!!! - i also emailed ASUS and is still in denial that they where aware it was an issue don't seem to care that thousands of users probably ditched their routers thinking they had/told it was a hardware issue - I'm thinking its time to look for an alternative as ASUS attitude is disgusting.

I was in a similar position. I was concerned about future updates and security patches regarding my RT-AX86U (even though mine never had this issue.). So I decided to get an upgraded router with faster Ethernet ports and the new line of AsusWRT. So also got an RT-BE92U. I did update my RT-AX86U with the patched firmware, so I have it as a backup.

6GHz band signal strength diminishes too much over short distance... falling back to 5GHz band with 2800Mbps in BE92U as opposed to 5700 in AX86U is a downgrade for me...

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and it's only about 625 sq ft, and 6Ghz seems to work in the bedroom, but i mainly got it for the 2.5g Ethernet ports over wifi 7 as the only device i have that can do 6e is my iPhone 15 pro max. So basically for now, I've just been using it as a dual band router until I can take advantage of 6Ghz with more devices. The other thing is, I hard wire all devices possible, so most of my devices that are wireless only are 2.4Ghz IOT devices. My only wireless only device capable of high speed is my iPhone. I also found out I can get a USB C to Ethernet adapter and also hard wire the phone if I wanted to. However, I don't need to. So for now the BE92U will get me through the next few years, and then I might start researching small business routers where I can get a separate router and AP. as once I've gotten something with 2.5 ports now, the only other upgrades would be WiFi until I am able to take advantage of 10G, which won't be anytime soon that I can see.

EDIT: After re-reading your post, sounds like you don't want anything with 6Ghz then if the shorter distance is a concern fro your environment. I think your concern is more about the 6Ghz band as a whole than a specific router model.

Serious question to you - as a single user with mostly IoT devices, a phone and a computer, perhaps a TV or a tablet... what advantage you expect to take from 6GHz band and 10GbE networking? I read about your intentions to take advantage in every thread. At this point you are close to $1000 out of your pocket for 3x home routers and 1x cable modem. The only advantage I see is playing with newer equipment and occasionally dealing with issues.

All I meant with that statement is 10G internet isn't available here, and I have no need for that speed right now. In terms of 2.5G I have that available and the iMac can benefit from it when it comes to large downloads. I don't have the space needed in this apartment that I'd like to have to set up multiple computers and a NAS. So when I say "when I'm able to take advantage of stuff" I am referring to when I can set up an environment that is able to take advantage of future technology. Right now, I was mainly focused on getting the most out of my current setup which would be 2.5G. They did come out before Thanksgiving and flag off where the new cable is going to go. I haven't heard since. So anyway, just keep in mind I'm used to having a lot more on the network than I do now. The reason no one here knows that is I wasn't on this site then and when I came on, I already had to downsize. due to the other computer dying, and other factors.

Also for a FYI: I went down to the 500 / 50 plan because that's the fastest I could get under a Gig and also what has been stable. With that said, I've considered just going back to my old 6th gen Airport Extreme since it can do those speeds. The Airport was my original router. So I only bothered with Asus or any other brand because Apple discontinued the airport and I was trying to find something I was happy with.

Right, it's not something i will do overnight. I just thought doing it in steps would be a good idea to see what all i can use and be out less money if something doesn't work out. By the way, Jim came out right before Thanksgiving to flag off where the new line is going to run, but no further activity yet.
