RT-AX88U losing WIFI

I'm loosing both wifi bands on an AX88u. Reboot fixes it until it fails again
Seems you got the same issue as I did. If you disable and re-enable WIFI with the WIFI Button on the Router (front right side), it will work for some time again too. For me the only working solution was downgrade to version 388.7. Not one single drop since. Please share your solution :)
 
"Private Wi-Fi Address” has never worked properly on iphones.

I pointed this out only regarding the reply suggesting the WiFi dropping was related to Galaxy phones.

My issue is with 2.4 GHz IoT devices losing connection. Another issue I saw was the 2.5 G LAN port would drop to 1 GHz indicated on Network Map. This port is connected to a 2.5 G switch - I was able to confirm the switch indicator lights had dropped down to 1 G. The switch has been rock solid with all my other 2.5 G devices.

Downgraded to 388.7 - I'm still evaluating the 2.4 GHz IoT reliability.

The 2.5 G LAN port is now keeping a solid 2.5 Gbps connection to the 2.5 G switch.

there isn't an ethernet driver update between 388.7 and 388.8 (these come bundled in the GPL) to alter the behavior of the switch.

Actually, I have accumulated a variety of smart home devices…too many to list.

I’m not sure there is a 2.4 ghz problem at this point - numerous symptoms as well as hitting the limit of 2.4 ghz devices - network map shows 33 - and if I try to connect my phone, I get ‘can’t connect’ error.

The only definitive issue I can state now is the 2.5 ghz LAN port - 388.8.2 kept dropping to 1 GHz but 388.7 is staying rock solid on 2.5. I understand the comment about no change in drivers but the results are what they are. I will likely give 388.8.2 another try.

I’ve got a complex situation that I’m trying to optimize - I’ll start a new thread with a more complete explanation and hopefully get some suggestions from the expertise here..!!!

For the record, I also get all these lines when my smartphone is connected to Wifi, which is a bit strange (AX88U - 388.8_2)
I don't have any disconnection problems at the moment.

Roamast messages usually or typically means you have Roaming Assistant enabled on the Wireless > Professional router GUI page. The tooltip for Roaming Assistant:
"In network configurations that involve multiple Access Points or wireless repeaters, wireless clients sometimes cannot connect automatically to the best available AP because they are still connected to the main wireless router. Enable this setting so that the client will disconnect from the main wireless router if the signal strength is under a specific threshold and connect to a stronger signal."
 
Thanks for your help, but I haven't touched anything, the router configuration is original.
I perform a WPS reset after each flash of a new Merlin firmware as recommended.

Would it be wise to disable this by default for the next version, or are these messages not important ?

Others more knowledgeable can chime in on should the option be enabled or disabled. I leave it at default (enabled) even though I don't currently use AP's or AiMesh and just ignore those messages in my system log. Shrugs.

I have an RT-AX88U Pro and this is happening at least every other hour (for 1-2 minutes) on ALL devices, WIFI or not. The router itself says it is connected to the internet and the devices are connected to the router.
I've tried multiple firmware versions and factory resetting each time, replacing the modem, replacing the cords, but no luck. This is an absolute nightmare to troubleshoot because every thread I find advises everything I've tried already..

A few folks around had to RMA their new RT-AX88U Pro routers. The replacement units work fine. Perhaps contact Asus?
 
Run stock Asuswrt, observe the behavior, if the same issue - report it in Feedback form and call Support for RMA.

I was originally having the issue with ASUS firmware, is there a specific version I should rollback to?
 
Test with latest official stock firmware.

You have to reset to defaults after flashing it and reconfigure the router, it's Asuswrt 5.0 base. Asuswrt-Merlin is using Asuswrt 4.0 base.
 
FWIW - I am experiencing identical issues on a newly installed AX88U Pro - seeing these drops primarily with 2.4 GHz smart devices. Only iPhones in the house.

The AX88U Pro replaces an AC88U that had been working flawlessly for 5 years - with new ISP, I wanted to get full bandwidth for phones.

I went from ASUS factory firmware to 388.8.2 since we don't have any android phones and did factory reset afterwards.

I may try downgrading to 388.7 - with many smart devices, things do not feel too stable at the moment....
Have you found the fix for this?

Somehow iPhones and iPads keep getting disconnected from 2.4 GHz when the screen is locked or the phone went to sleep. Other devices on the network don't have this issue.

I'm on Merlin 386.14 RT-AC86U

Did you ever get this resolved? I've tried the latest and greatest from Asus but also latest Merlin and still getting a total drop of all connections for a couple minutes usually once a day (that I notice). Yes! I was able to resolve it by first installing the newest firmware from ASUS (3.0.0.6.102_33338), then restoring factory settings, factory reset, and reconnecting/restarting it and the modem. I wasn't able to get it working with Merlin unfortunately, but haven't had any drop outs since.

Hmm. I will have to try 3006_102_33338 again. I already did, but I didn't factory reset. Thanks for the update!
