RT N-56U Very low WAN speeds

I`ve recently started to have problems with my RT-N56U.
When ever I use my bandwidth I can`t do anything else with my bandwidth.
Now this is bad becouse I run game servers, websites, VOIP etc.
Before I didn`t experience anything similar with my RT-N56U.
I`ve had it for 14 months now so maybe it`s breaking apart?

I also would like to point out that my connection is Fiber to the Building (FTTB).

Firmwares tried:
-Padawan 3.0.3.5-055_micro
-Padawan 3.0.3.5-050
-Padawan 3.0.3.4-049
-Padawan 3.0.3.4-048_micro
-Padawan 1.1.2.6-018

-Asus 3.0.0.4_206
-Asus 3.0.0.4_360

I did a reset after flashing between 1.1 and 3.0..

I`ve tried a few devices to see if the problems is in my RT and so far it seems like it`s in it.

To stress I used a 1 connection upload to a cloud service, similar results with BT, youtube upload etc.

Any info on why`s this happening and what would be the best firmware to try out next?
I don`t need any fancy stuff that RT-N56U offers just raw routing performance.

if u havent tried the rescue mode upgrade, u should try that. reset the router before and after. i recently realised i did one little mistake that ruin it for me. upgrading via wireless. before anyone say anything bout upgrading should be done hard wired, i already know it and now im just reminding.

Alright I used the firmware rescue mode for the first time =)
I flashed 3.0.3.5-055_micro using it. And I did resets before and after.
I`ve always updated the firmware hard wired before, it`s a kind of no brainer
Well I really hoped this would`ve solved the issue but it didn`t
These kind of results still persist if I stress the connection after the rescue mode:

I also saw that there`s a bunch of "dot3OutPauseFrames" again in the lan connection info.

On the netalyzr test:

"We estimate your uplink as having 730 ms of buffering. This level can in some situations prove somewhat high, and you may experience degraded performance when performing interactive tasks such as web-surfing while simultaneously conducting large uploads. Real-time applications, such as games or audio chat, may also work poorly when conducting large uploads at the same time."

730 ms is too much. All you can do is try the official Firmware and use QOS Settings. Then the most things you see should be decreased. And your Router should respond much better. The netalyzr test is a test of Bufferbloat. I hope ASUS will do something against Bufferbloat because in Linux Kernel 3.3 or above there are some things implemented to reduce it. Even CISCO is working on a thing called (PIE).

Alright, before switching to the official firmware I thought I`d run the test without RT-N56U between and plugged in my Cisco SWR2024P switch to give my computer a public IP from the ISP and still have RT-N56U and the services behind it running to avoid downtime and here`s the result:

This makes me think that I need to contact my ISP about this as I stated before this problem is only a month old and I`ve had pretty nice connection before this.

Runned these tests with the public IP just now under the same stress test I`ve used for all the stress tests:

These lead back to the RT-N56U being very slow for me

EDIT2:
I`m now convinced that the problem is in the RT-N56U.
If I do the stress test straight to ISP and run pingtest and speedtest from my server which is behind the RT-N56U it gets good results (becouse the stress test traffic doesn`t go trough the RT-N56U).

My friend did this test although his ISP is different this gave me a reason to call my ISP and yell.

upload of your friend is cool.

I have 400 ms upload delay if my upload is "full".

Since I disabled Broadcast Storm control my Router run much better.

On Padavans Firmware goto lan/iptv

You can also disable all those "pause" frames if you disable flow control.

On Padavans firmware goto lan/ethernet switch.

I read about that the Flow controll Feature is not very good so I disabled it all. TCP has it´s own flow control and doesn´t need pause frames......

I also disabled all offloading.

In Padavan´s firmare goto wan

Hardware offload NAT/Routing IPv4: (disable slow).

Your Bufferbloat Problem will not be better with this but my connection got much better with these setting.

You can try it and restart. Post back

maybe try the asus' 1.0.1.7f. if its the same then it could be yr router at the end of its life or yr isp is the problem.

I did all that you recommended Mat77 and it did indeed solve the issue with my RT-N56U
At least the slowdown isn`t insane anymore and it´s to a level I can live with.
I`ll give a call to my ISP on monday about the upload buffer because my friend has inferior connection type (Cable modem) than my fiber and yet so much lower level.

It's probably your settings. Are you using Ethernet or wifi connection to test?

I've been having these problems with said firmware and the time frame was about the same. I have comcast as my ISP and I'm not sure whether that's related in any way.

I've gone to various different firmwares to fix the issue but it seems certain devices cause it to freak out and slow down bandwidth. I've gone back to the regular ASUS firmware and re did all my settings.

So far so good but who knows

After I followed "Mat77"s suggestions I was able to get my RT-N56U perform very well. The problem is though with my ISP since it persists even if I connect my PC straight to ISP DHCP. (no modem because it`s a fiber to the building type of connection)

I`ve used ethernet for testing always.

EDIT2:
I`m told that I should limit my upload to avoid problems with my connection. Is there any speedlimiters for RT-N56U?

Slow WAN speed

I know this is a late post, but my wireless speed dropped to way below 1 mb. It was triving me crazy. I discovered that when I turned off the "Airadar" under the System Status, 5ghz page, the speed returned to normal.
