New Around Here
I recently bought a refurbished Asus RT-N53 to replace a old Netgear wireless router and it has become a nightmare. From the start the router was dropping connections and after I updated the firmware I didn't notice a difference. I did some research and I heard people were having success with Tomato so I looked up how to install it and started on my journey.

Unfortunatley my journey ended very early when I tried to get DD-WRT on the router. My router is now displaying a network: dd-wrt which is open with no security but I cannot access the GUI or interface to edit anything.

When I access 192.168.1.1 in Chrome I get:

Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-N53.

To access the settings of RT-N53, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number.

In IE I get nothing.

I'm just wondering if maybe I am doing something.

I power cycled with the power button and the WPS button to no avail.

Thank you for reading.

Clear your browser cache. Changing firmware can confuse web browsers.

Thank you for the reply.

I cleared the cache in Chrome and IE. Only change is I don't get the message from Chrome anymore. It also gives no reply now.

Reset the router to defaults by holding the reset button for 10 sec when the router is on.

If you "right-click" on the connection are you able to see/confirm the address of the router?

I just sent you a private message because I'm not sure if I can post links to other sites on here.

I'm not sure what you want me to right click.

I tried power cycling with the WPS button but the network stays unfazed.

I don't know how it's so resilient.

On the bright side my neighbors have had a open connection for the past 3 days.

I have attached something that may be of use. It may also be helpful to note that I have 2 routers. One is a cisco router from my ISP Rogers and is accessed at: 192.168.0.1. The Asus was at: 192.168.1.1 before I sent it into another dimension.

Not sure where you want to go from here. Back to Asus firmware? Make the dd-wrt work? Back to tomato? In any case, if you hold the reset button in for about 10 or 15 seconds, or 30 seconds max, then release it, your router should reset, and allow login to whatever firmware you're using.

I'm using dd-wrt firmware as we speak, and when I hold the reset button in on my router, it resets it to factory defaults. Which allows me (and should allow you) to log into the web admin GUI at 192.168.1.1. Actually, dd-wrt firmware will ask you to set your user name and password right after reset, first thing, before allowing login.

Once you can log into dd-wrt, you can configure it, or flash something else, as you know. But if reset button isn't working for you, I wonder if the router is really functional?

The problem I'm having is the reset button isn't doing anything. In fact nothing I have tried has affected the router. At this point I would be happy just to go back to the original Asus firmware.
