[SOLVED] RT-N56U Blinking Power LED

I was prompted of a new firmware update when I was setting up the router for use. I followed the instruction and install the new firmware as per instructed.

However, after I restarted the router, problem started. Upon start-up, there is no connection at all. All I can see is that there is blue power blinking LED light on the router.

I read up a bit and the manual say that a slow blue power blinking LED mean recovery mode. Upon reading more, I read from this forum post, that I can flash my router firmware via firmware restoration utility.

I went to the ASUS official support page, followed their instruction, but I cannot solve the problem.

In particular, it ask me to download the firmware for "RT-N16", and I got an invalid IP when I try to recover.

When I try with "RT-56U" firmware, the firmware restoration show "Failed to upload the firmware. Please check the connection between your computer and router."

Update:
I managed to solve it by downloading the correct firmware, and plugging the connecting cable into LAN port, instead of WAN port.

Go to your computers network adapter properties. Set a static ip of 192.168.1.9, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.1.1. Open up a cmd window and type: ping 192.168.1.1 -t. If its in recovery mode you should get a ttl=100 response.
Next try the firmware recovery too again.

Don't use the firmware for the rt-n16. Download the firmware for your router and browse to it using the recovery tool.

Can you double check which router you really have? Your topic says RT-N56, the firmware you tried to upload based on your screenshot was RT-N65, and you mention an RT-N16. Those are three very different devices, you need to make sure you use the correct firmware.

(and that was posted in the RT-ACxxx sub-forum, making me wonder if maybe you are talking about an RT-AC56U LOL)

Hi

Thank for pointing it out! I managed to solve it by downloading the correct firmware, and plugging the connecting cable into LAN port, instead of WAN port.

Damn the ASUS official website which ask me to download RT-N16 firmware!
