I was able to transfer large files to the HD attached to the USB port on the RT-N66U without any problems. Now, only small files of 10mb or so can be transferred.
I have cleaned out everything possible, the HD has way enough space, the computers HD are large in capacity where the files come from.
The PC is hardwired to the Router.

I get this error after a long idle HERE

Any suggestions where to start looking?

could not understand if this is a new problem on and old drive, or a new problem on a new drive.

I have no direct experience with usb connected to router drives, but I do know that disk formats matter (e.g. If it is formatted FAT32, then that format cannot handle file sizes >4GB...)

probably wants linux extfs - formatted by the router. Some routers I've read have no formatter/initializer.

NTFS under Linux is really slow, esp. writes.

Yes, that was it ...... the Formatting..

All we sometimes need is a different view to see things clear.

Thanks so much for your great help.

Thank you kenhlan

Thank you stevech

Know that linux extfs varieties can be mounted and read under windows with freeware...

E.g., USB3 or eSATA connected to NAS for backups. If needed, plug into windows PC and get files.

You can also read them via a Linux LiveCD or in a Linux VM. The Disk Internals driver is easier but the other two options I've found to be much more reliable.
