RT-N66U disconnecting (while modem is stable)

Hello,
first of all I would like to thank Merlin for his valuable and effortless work. :)
Now to the problem I'm seeing. I'd like to understand if it's firmware related or if there is some setting I'm missing.
I've just upgraded to a RT-N66U (Merlin fw 374.40) from my previous router. The line was rock solid before, but now I see this in the router log every hour or so. I want to note that the modem doesn't disconnect, so the issue must be on the router side. I'm on ADSL and PPPoE, full bridge.
Code:
Jul 26 05:14:29 pppd[399]: LCP terminated by peer
Jul 26 05:14:29 pppd[399]: Connect time 272.2 minutes.
Jul 26 05:14:29 pppd[399]: Sent 1101512 bytes, received 6640443 bytes.
Jul 26 05:14:29 miniupnpd[585]: Failed to get IP for interface ppp0
Jul 26 05:14:29 miniupnpd[585]: SendNATPMPPublicAddressChangeNotification: cannot get public IP address, stopping
Jul 26 05:14:29 dnsmasq[539]: read /etc/hosts - 5 addresses
Jul 26 05:14:29 dnsmasq[539]: read /etc/hosts.dnsmasq - 1 addresses
Jul 26 05:14:29 dnsmasq-dhcp[539]: read /etc/ethers - 1 addresses
Jul 26 05:14:29 dnsmasq[539]: using nameserver 80.58.61.254#53
Jul 26 05:14:29 dnsmasq[539]: using nameserver 80.58.61.250#53
Jul 26 05:14:30 WAN Connection: Fail to connect with some issues.

The issue is not unknown, if you search the web. This user is seeing the same behaviour with his RT-N16 and fw 374.43: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showpost.php?p=129405&postcount=141

Thanks for the help.

It looks like your router can't find your IP, you have changed it ever? If you have forgotten your IP, then you have to do following steps:
1 Setting your computer to get IP automatically , and connected to the router,
2 typing cmd into the start running and enter prompt , enter ipconfig,u can query the information of the gateway, the gateway is the router's IP
Or, you can try reset your router.my huawei e8278 also have been such a problem, that's the way i solve this problem,it's worka well now.

Well, the log says "public" ip, doesn't it? I think it's the router not catching the ip from the modem, and not my pc (which was off at that time by the way) not catching its ip from the router.

The PPTP/PPPoE connection was terminated, leading to miniupnpd logging the error that it cannot find the public IP - this is normal because, at that point, you no longer have one.

In this case, it wasn't every hour, it happened after 272 minutes, so roughly 4 hours.

Is it normal that the PPPoE connection gets terminated even if the modem doesn't disconnect? It didn't happen before. Do you think it's a router issue?

That would surprise me. Could be the ISP deciding the connection timed out due to inactivity, for example.

I've just looked at the log. It hasn't happened any more in the last 24 hours. I'll let you know how it goes.
I don't think it's a timeout disconnect, because it sometimes happened at very short intervals (sometimes 6 minutes or so). Let's hope it was the ISP doing its work.

up...
I can say that after about 10 days the issue hasn't reproduced anymore. That was nothing Merlin-related! ;)

It can be when PPPoE AP(Access Point, Access Server) in overloaded or unstable.
I have same problems with old ISP, they provide solution for me - try to use another AP
(Adress of it you can find in logs)
Basically provider has more than one.
Maybe not bad idea, ask from support about alternate AP's

I'll bear that in mind in case the issue gets back. Thanks. :)
