RMerlin, any idea on how to get the routers to save the config changes after they have been set to AP mode? Any config change attempts simply make the routers take me back to the login screen instead of displaying the usual progress screen for saving changes.

Try accessing by its IP rather than by a hostname, and make sure your browser doesn't block Javascript/cookies which might interfere with authentication.

After many attempts, I've finally figured out what was happening: I was accessing the routers using a hostname. If the access is done using the routers's IP addresses, the configuration is saved.
