Hello,

I just wanted to confirm that the UML290 does work with the RT-N66U using Merlin's own firmware or stock ASUSWRT. The connection is fast and stable. I can achieve download speeds up to 20 mb per second through speedtest.net.

The uploads are less than perfect through. When the UML290 is connected directly to my PC, I can get 10 mb per second up, and almost always more than 5 mb per second up. When the UML290 is connected to the RT-N66U, the upload speed will not go more than 3 mb per second up. I have tried to change many of the internal gui settings, but nothing really works. Any suggestions on how this can be improved?

I would like to stick with this router rather than a cradlepoint or pepwave.

Thanks!

Test with QoS disabled, try replacing the Ethernet cable between the modem and the router (you need a cable rated Cat5e or higher for this router), and try leaving the modem powered off for 5-10 mins to fully reinitialize your connection.

Thanks for the quick reply!

The UML290 is actually a USB modem. Sorry for not clarifying this earlier. I have tried with the modem plugged directly into the router and with different extension cables. The upload speed remains the same.

I will play with the QoS settings later today. I know that when I ran the speedtests, QoS was off. I'll try with QoS on.

Enabling QoS can only decrease your total speed, so leave it disabled for best performance.

If your modem is USB-based then the router might not be fast enough to properly handle a USB-based high speed connection. If your connection is plain ADSL/ADSL2 then I would recommend buying an inexpensive DSL modem with an Ethernet port. It will be more reliable, and also give you more flexibility. Well worth the 40$-50$ IMHO.
