Searching for reliability

Hi,
Today's PCB boards are very often multi-layered and components are also often SMT based ones. Unless one has SMT soldering station and special skill to deal with multi-layer board It is not an easy task. And ASIC kinda parts is almost impossible to find unless you find a source dealing in 1000 pieces minimum order, etc. Specific component level failure is some times by poor QC screening process.

I had good luck with linksys wrt54g or wrt54gl
I am sure a lot of other people have had the same
So after about 8 years it was time to replace even that it works perfect
I was debating which next, i have apple extreme 5th generation and it has been working reliably after 1 year
Cisco business grade are good but expensive
I have a 800 series works great but is only G band
