Security update support list for the US market

This is kinda lame.

Why?

Asus takes 6-18 months to announce a product and for that product to actually be available for customers to purchase from retail channels like amazon. In the end, customers barely get 2-3 years of support.

Take example of Asus BT10. It was announced on 29th Jan 2024. But it's yet not available in the market. By the time it reaches other countries apart from US/UK, it already is 1.5-2 years old.

The law only forces companies to state when products may stop receiving updates - it doesn't specify how the companies position it or how long support must be.

All Asus are doing is putting a timeframe short enough they can make a legally required statement while having flexibility to extend support times for the products they want to - nobody is going to complain if they extend support for a product.

I agree starting the clock from announcement just so you can claim 4 years instead of 2 isn't great but the UK is a small market and generally half a generation behind the likes of the US (not to mention overpriced compared to the US!) so this law was never really going to change anything for Asus.
