New Around Here
Hi Guys

I live next door to my sister and we have run a networking cable underground to share the internet.

I have Google Home and Smartthings Hub (for smart switches)

I have notices that because we are on the same network when each of us open up our Google Home app we see the others speakers and the same goes with Smartthings

Is there any way to split the network I have a router installed at her location with DHCP disabled right now. The only thing is that I have a harddrive in the usb port of my router with movies that I would still like to share

Any thoughts

Thanks

Rick

Reconfigure your sister's router as a router rather than an access point so you have two different networks. e.g. 192.168.1.x (you) and 192.168.2.x (your sister). For your sister to access the files on your router she would have to use it's IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.1.

Thanks for the info
So any computer on 192.168.1.? would have access to any on 192.168.2.?
Its just that the app would now not pick up anything on the other IP range

No. Going in that direction (you to her) won't work because the traffic will be blocked by the firewall and NAT on her router (unless you reconfigured that).

Ok so if her router would block me y would my router not block her
Your router's firewall only effects connections from your LAN to the internet, not your connections to her router (which looks just like any other LAN device as far as your router is concerned).
