Sky SR102 as a bridge to Asus DSL-AC68U - How to?

Team,

I know what I want to do but am out of my depth!

I have been using my Asus for months on Sky fibre but the performance (speed) has been disappointing. So, I decided to reconnect the Sky router and call Sky to complain. To my amazement, when I reconnected the Sky router, I got another 2.5mb! Now, when you are in the sticks, and being used to only 6mb, this makes a huge difference.

So, my immediate thought is to use the Sky router up-front and bridge it to the Asus so that I keep all the features of the Asus.

That's the plan - but I do not have enough confidence to start experimenting. Is there someone who has done this and can give me step by step guidance?

Also, can anyone explain why the Asus router doesn't perform as well as the Sky router? Is it a chipset mis-match issue? Would another type of router performa as well as the Sky SR102?

Very grateful for any guidance.

Thanks

David

This is why you do not use all in ones, they dont perform the well. If you want all in one get fibre and a router with SFP and the SFP module for it. Seeing as only enterprise grade routers have those you will get really good speeds.

There might be a few ways to get your asus router to be faster. Perhaps some active cooling would give a better sync rate to the DSL chip that is sitting next to an oven.

You can xet the modem as a bridge and connect to asus WAN port if it has a WAN port.

Thanks for this. If I can use the existing kit then that will save me the money! Also, if I can use the Sky router at the front, I won't have any issues when I call Sky for assistance. The router has a WAN port but I have read that this needs an understanding of DMZs and Natting - that's where the mist comes down!

Cheers

..and I think therein lies the problem. Since the last post, I have been looking at the Sky router config and it doesn't seem to have a bridge mode.
