Slow transfer speeds to NS4300N. Help?

So I just setup my Promise NS4300N. Here is what my system is. I put 4 1TB WD WD10EADS. I have it set as RAID 5. I am on a 100MB network. My system is XP SP3 on wireless. I am using the supplied ethernet cable that came with the system to connect the NAS to the router.

When transferring to the NAS or from NAS to PC, I only get 1-2MB max speeds. Is this because I am using wireless? I dont have any computers wired into my network to test this out nor have any cables that are that long enough, but if I have to go out and buy a cable long enough to get the speeds I see people talking about, I will. Or do I have a defected product and need to RMA it out? I am very new to this, so anything I have left out or sound stupid, sorry in advance.

Basically, yes. If you are using 802.11g wireless, best case throughput is around 24 Mbps, which is 3MB/s. Typical wireless throughput is more like 10 Mbps, which is ~1.2MB/s.

Thank you for your quick answer. Now I know I am not stupid and going insane, lol. Last question and I know prob stupid again, if I go hard wired, should I get a lot better speeds? Reason I ask is because my computer is no where near the router so I would have to run a long wire and before going out and getting one, just wanted to see what I should expect. With a gigabit Ethernet connection, you should be able to get close to 20 MB/s. With 100 Mbps Ethernet it will be closer to 8 MB/s (the connection speed limits performance).
