Hi there,

As always, thank you Merlin for the wonderful firmware. ;)

- N66U running 3.0.0.4.372.30_2 Merlin
- 32 GB Patriot Xporter XT Rage USB flash plugged on the N66U
- LAN cable from N66U to PC
- Win 7 x64

Moving various filea to the USB stick via the wired network: ~ 5 MB/s. Extremely slow. Any ideas what could be causing this? I was getting 10+ MB/s with tomato shibby.

Thanks!

Make sure you don't have the Media Server or Download Master enabled and actively scanning your disk, keeping it busy.

Hi there,

Media Server is disabled, and Download Master has never been installed.

I changed the USB stick filesystem to ext3, getting about 6-6.5 MB/s now...

Just for future reference, what did you change it from?

Previous filesystem was NTFS.

BTW in the logs I noticed Samba posting the following errors:

Jul 20 15:48:10 smbd[540]: [2013/07/20 15:48:10, 0] libsmb/ntlm_check.c:smb_pwd_check_ntlmv1(55)
Jul 20 15:48:10 smbd[540]: smb_pwd_check_ntlmv1: incorrect password length (74)

Not sure if this has anything to do with the speed issues.

Also, when moving a file from the PC to the router's attached USB stick (PC is hardwired) the router admin becomes very slow.

I fixed the 'smb_pwd_check_ntlmv1' issue by following the directions here.

However, USB speed is still very slow...

I recently updated my n66u to firmware version 3.0.0.4.372.30_2 Merlin, and my pc to attached usb hdd speeds were so slow no matter what settings I messed with that I reverted back to the ealier Merlin firmware I had been running.

I don't jump to update my firmware, it's more of a "when I think of it" thing, so I think I was running RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_270.25b, which is the one I went back to. My transfer speeds are back up to where they were before.

Side note, I've never noticed a difference in transfer speed between Media Server being on or off. Speed does tend to dip a bit if someone, somewhere in my house is actively watching something from the usb hdd, which is most of the time as I have almost 3TB of Movies, Tv shows and other assorted media on the usb hdd.

Hi there,

Tried RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_270.25b and got about 7 MB/s

Also getting around 6 MB/s with the newest RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_372.31_0

What are your speeds currently?

Thanks.

I'm getting something around it and I'm dissapointed by it.

Anyone else can post their results and advice what we can expect with this router?

On a wired Gigabit LAN with a disk fast enough (that means not a cheap USB 2.0 thumb drive) you should be able to reach 12-15 MB/s.

Performance will vary if you use Media Server, Download Master, are using a wireless connection, or have stuff wired at 100 Mbits.
