So Mom gave me a MoCa project and I'm stumped...

You need to find the amp and post the model number or a picture it.
The picture you posted is the power adapter.
An amp will have two or more coax connecters.
When you power down an amp without removing it the signals on the coax are effectively blocked.

Yes, the Internet in the whole house dies without it plugged in. Older building. Do you have any recommendations as to an amp ?
“Without it plugged in” is ambiguous.

“Not plugged in” could mean “not powered-on” … which, yeah, would kill the cable signal on all amplified outputs.

“Not plugged-in through the amp” could mean that the cable modem has been wired to bypass the amp, and cannot sync with the provider in this configuration.

I was still waiting to hear that you’ve actually located the amp and could provide the brand & model # of the amplifier currently in use.

Also … it doesn’t make sense to jump to a recommendation before understanding what you have and how things are actually connected, since the amp model may not be the issue.

Sorry for your loss.

When you get back to the project you also need figure out the layout of the coax network.
If the amp is located before the first splitter, it should not be a problem for MOCA.
