Speed issue, where to start

Today I switched ISP's and should have 200/200. When I am plugged in to my router I only get half that. If plugged directly into the line, I get full speeds.
I have an Asus RT-AX86U on merlin's 3004.388.8_4 build. I am running diversion, but turning that off seems to make no difference. Can anyone help suggest where to start looking to fix?

Oh, speed degradation is wired and over wifi.

Could it be the ethernet cable is an old cable?

brand new run. but am getting this:

link speed directly to my laptop negotiates to 1000/1000 but router is 100/100

1) Replace the ISP device to ASUS WAN cable with a known good cable as a first try.
2) If that doesn't change the result, try an alternate port on the ASUS for the WAN connection if that is an option for that ASUS. Similarly, if the ISP device has other LAN ports, try those 1 at a time. If success, then bad port on ISP device and ask for replacement.
3) If, using the same known good cable direct to your laptop from the ISP device gives full link rate to the laptop, then you may have a bad port on the ASUS.

You can also check for dust/dirt/fuzz in the RJ-45 port or a slightly loose wire in the cable termination (both ends) to see if that fixes the issue.

Plugging into one of the lan ports shows green and full connection. No dust etc in the port. I'll try to go directly into the ONT later with a short patch cable. But all the cabling in house was run fresh this am. I can get a cable tester from work on Mon, but suspect the router port.
Is there a way to force the port to 1g and not auto negotiate?

Switch the WAN to the 2.5 GB port and see if that helps. Also use a different Ethernet cable CAT 5 at a minimum.

I tested directly at the ONT with 3x different good cables all Cat 5e or better. Same results.
Plugging into lan ports 1-4 show 1g connection and wan or 2.5gbe ports only 100mb connection.
I also plugged into my old isp router/modem with the same results so I am thinking maybe my router wan and 2.5gb ports are bad? Is there another way to test?
Should I be doing a factory reset to see if it fixes?

i'm sure you can find the correct procedure here with a little searching. Also on ASUS website. Initialize all settings does not sound like factory reset as it usually involves holding reset button down for a while during a power off/on cycle.

After that, manually configure basic settings to get it going. Do not restore the config from a saved config.

If the 2.5Gbit ports are still linking at 100 , then time to RMA it or return to store if possible.

To test the ability of a router's port, simply connect WAN directly to any PC/device with 1Gb+ ethernet (using ethernet cable) and you will see the result in a log. You don't have to obtain an IP address, there is a test on HW level which should test a HW function. You can test all ethernet ports for a comparison, in the log you should see a description of port you just tested.
