Hi

Yes i too am facing same problem after recent update to 380.61. I am using hdd connected to usb of rt-n66u. Spin down time has been set to 300 sec. In other settings all boxes are unchecked for drives.

="Sabbath81, post: 276485, member: 49498"]Hello,

Im noticing a strange problem with my rt-n66u trying to spin down the attached external hdd WD Elements 2.5".

The drive is mounted as sda, but sd-idle gets the following error:

Aug 17 23:31:38 sd-idle-2.6[878]: spinning down /dev/sdb
Aug 17 23:31:38 sd-idle-2.6[878]: Failure to open /dev/sdb for spinning down: No medium found

The hdd is not going down anyway.

Im using 380.58 version of merlinwrt.

Any ideas how to solve this?[/QUOTE]

Do you suggest to remove the swap in such case?

Is there a way to move it to another part without complete reinstallation? And change its size down to 512 mb?

Thanks
I'm not sure of the optware requirement for a swap. I believe that I read that transmission can benefit from a swap (that's why I made the assumption that the two were connected).
I'd consider plugging a USB stick into the second USB port, then moving the swap there. One of the optware experts can probably tell you what script/config file would need to be updated.

Guys,

Its really strange for me. After reinstalling optware to a flash drive, mounted as sda, and the hdd as sdb, this is the log for sd-idle:

21 22:22:18 sd-idle-2.6[798]: spinning down /dev/sdc
Aug 21 22:22:18 sd-idle-2.6[798]: Failure to open /dev/sdc for spinning down: No medium found

Why this keeps searching for another drive?

Because you actually have one....the sd card reader on the router mainboard. Just exclude that drive on the tools page. Now, with the swap moved to a flash drive, your real spinning hdd should be able to spin down successfully.

Hi there,

the problem has been solved using 2 connected via USB storage devices:
- flash memory for optware installation and configs
- external hdd for data storage

Thus, currently the external hdd, mounted , can successfully spin down and up , when needed. The flash memory is always up and running.
