Split dns with an asus rt-axe7800 router (stock firmware)

New Around Here
Hi All,

I'm definitely not a networking guru and seeking some help/suggestions...

Is it possible to do split dns in an asus rt-axe7800 router with the stock asus firmware? Unfortunately, merlin does not have firmware for my router model, nor does gnuton.

Basically, I have a web server in my basement that I want to have requests resolve locally, when coming from inside my LAN.

I'm currently running an immich server to back up photos & videos. I have cloudflare do my DNS for my hostnames. From what I know, cloudflare caps file uploads at 100mb on their free plans. For photos I haven't hit this threshold, but with videos I have.

The easy solution I can think of (in my mind) to get around this limitation is for the requests to my server to never leave the LAN when they're made locally.

I'm not seeing an easy way to do this in the stock asus firmware's gui. Is this even possible, or is there another wording for what I'm trying to do that I'm just missing?!

Thanks in advance for any help!

What do you mean by split DNS?

What do you mean by split DNS?

I want my traffic generated within my LAN to my servers to stay within my LAN.

Currently, when I make a request to my web site using the domain name, it goes out to the internet, hits cloudflare (which currently does my DNS for my domain names) and then comes back to the server in my basement.

I can't remember what router model/make I was using at the time but I swear I used to be able to map a hostname (mysite.com) to an internal IP so when I'd generate a request within my LAN for mysite.com, it'd go to whatever computer/server I had it mapped to within my network.
