Hi everybody :)

I hope that I'm posting in the right section

Recently I'm having strange issues with my access point, and I can't figure out what can be the problem.

First of all my configuration.

Internet --> modem (forcibly imposed by provider, it's a Pirelli something, not sure exactly the model) --> Router (cabled only TP-Link R600VPN) --> Access Point (TP-Link W8961ND) to add wifi to the router

Everything worked just fine, but recently I'm having issues with the tablet connectivity, i.e the tablet seems not able anymore to access internet. All other wireless devices (smartphone, laptop) seems unaffected by this issue, and every cabled connection seems working fine.

The only solution to restore tablet connectivity is to reboot the router. Rebooting the access point is useless, I already tried many times with no results. Unplugging and plugging again the AP cable to the router is useless too (I thought that this could be a faster workaround because it should force the router to re-scan all connected devices, but obviously I was wrong). After rebooting the router the tablet can access again to internet, but only for few minutes. Then, again, connection is lost, and another reboot is needed.

I'm not entirely sure that the tablet is damaged, because the router reboot solve the problem. I assume that if the tablet is damaged connection will be impossible always, even after rebooting the router.

No app was recently installed in the tablet, except for the usual app updates through the play store, so I am not sure that the tablet has software issues.

No change was made in router configuration, the above hardware worked perfectly for more than one year 24/7 until few days ago when these issues appeared suddenly.

Even more strange. when I force the tablet to re-scan all wifi connections available around, the AP is correctly detected, and it says that connection is working. It just can't connect to the internet.

Finally, I also have a NAS (Synology 215j) connected to the router with ethernet cable. When the internet connection drops, the tablet is still able to access the NAS contents through the access point, and this also makes me think that the tablet is not damaged.

Can anyone suggest me a way to find who is the culprit? Maybe I should consider to buy a new router, possibly a model already provided by a wireless connectivity (so I can eliminate the access point and remove some clutter from the table)? Or maybe I should consider to get a new tablet? Both solutions are quite bad at the moment (I'm in money shortage too bad :()

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Sounds like it is more of a specific issue with the tablet itself - have you tried clearing out the settings and start over?

You didn't mention if the tablet was Android, iPad, or a Windows device...

Thanks for your answer :)

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it is an Android tablet, nothing fancy, just something to use the browser and to watch pictures (mostly from the NAS).

I didn't try a hard reset, but if possible I'd like to try this as last resource to avoid the hassles of restoring apps and backups.

I also forgot to mention that rebooting the tablet makes no difference: only rebooting the router solves the problem.

I have no idea what to search in the tablet because the wireless connection with the NAS is working correctly, just the connection to internet is affected :(

Have you tried using it on another network? If it is not showing the issues, then the problem has to be the router.

I think sfx2000 was referring to resetting/clearing the WiFi settings on the Android device.

Thanks again for your help :)

No, I don't have this option at the moment. I'll try to ask a friend to do a test with his home neetwork and I'll report results :)

oops, sorry I misunderstood. Can you please tell me how to do this? I don't know how to do. I tried to remove the AP from the list and make the tablet re-scan all wifi connections around, and the AP was correctly detected and connected (after inserting the password of course). Is this information useful? :)

I'm not sure at 100%, but maybe the culprit can be the youtube app. After the usual router reboot, I tested the connection for several minutes using chrome, and everything was fine. Then, I tried to watch a video on youtube and after 2 minutes connection dropped. Another router reboot and again trying to watch something on youtube and again after 2 minutes connection dropped. The NAS was still accessible, the router was still accessible (using chrome), but only internet connection was not working.

Even if there is something wrong in the youtube app, how can this mess up the connection so much that a router reboot is needed? This internet drop after 2 minutes both times seems too specific to be a simple coincidence

I have a quick update. Apparently seems that the problem is in the youtube app for android. Even if yesterday there was an update for this app, it didn't solve the problem.

I tried to use the browser to watch videos on youtube, and everything works correctly. Anytime I use the youtube app, however, after about 2 minutes the connection drops and I must reboot the router to get again internet access.

So, apparently the router is just fine, as fine seems to be the access point and the tablet itself.

Until the problem will be solved, the only solution is to use the browser, not a big deal :D

Thanks anybody for help :)
